Bottles are my favorite forms to make, and useful in many ways. I use bottles to serve any liquids, particularly wines. Some people associate drinking bottles with Japanese Sake, but I love to stretch the reference to include lemonade for the young'uns, iced tea on a picnic, something refreshing for the bass player on stage.....They are great for adding an artful or ceremonial touch to an evening with guests and a quiet moment between two. And of course they can also be used as vases, mantelpieces, or whatever else suits your fancy.

Fired on its side with a little cup resting on the other side, these little bottles offer a fresh contemplation with each turn of the bottle. The complex surfaces are created by wood ash, wadding marks, and gentle flame flashes.

Fired in Jody Johnstone's anagama, Swanville, Maine, this little one has drips and subtle flashing, complete with shell marks and a comfortable gripping neck. The other side has smaller shell markings from a small cup being fired on top of it.
